The Canary Islands are set in the Atlantic Ocean, between 27º37' and 29º23' North and 13º20' and 18º16' West of the Greenwich mean; a short distance from the African mainland. The nearest island is just 115 km off the coast of Africa. Tenerife is the largest island, set in the middle of the Canary Island Archipelago.
How can I get to the Canary Islands?
All the islands have airports. Tenerife has two and the intense passenger traffic makes them some of the most important airports in Spain. There are international connections with Europe, America and Africa, with quite cheap tariffs, thanks to the severe competition, the large number of airlines operating in the islands and the number of flights to Canary Island airports.
You can also get here by ship, but the journey is much longer and more tiresome.
What is Santa Cruz de Tenerife like?
Santa Cruz, capital of the island, is a mixture of tradition and modern times. It has become one of the most important capital cities in Spain, because of its beauty, tradition, culture, economy and, of course, its quality of life.
Can I hire a car, a bicycle? How?
The only transport in the Canary Islands at the moment is road transport. The road network is exempt from tolls and petrol is much cheaper here because taxes on it are lower. There are many car-hire agencies and prices are very reasonable. Bicycles are not widely used, except as a sport, because the terrain is quite rugged. It is occasionally used as everyday transport.
How old are your Spanish language course students and what countries are they from?
Most of the Spanish language course students come from the European Union. Age varies between approximately 20 and 30, although the minimum age is 18.
What is the maximum and minimum number of students on Spanish courses?
In order to make teaching as personal and efficient as possible, a maximum of 10 and a minimum of 3 students has been established for each Spanish language class.
What kind of time-tables are available?
There are Spanish language courses in the morning and afternoon. How they are distributed will depend on the school, as well as the wishes of students.
Is it possible to do a one-week Spanish course?
NO. Our Spanish language courses start at two weeks.
How do I decide what Spanish language standard I should take to study Spanish?
When enrolling, the student gives us an idea about his level of Spanish, but there will be a written and oral test on the first day of your Spanish language course to verify the student's real standard.
What happens if I do not like the standard of the Spanish language course I am assigned to?
The head of studies will review the student's application and personally certify the student's real Spanish language standard. The student will then be informed whether his request for a change of standard has been accepted or not. But we assure you, we will always find a satisfactory solution.
Do I get a Spanish language certificate at the end of the Spanish course?
At the end of the Spanish language course, each student will receive an attendance certificate for the Spanish studies done, provided that the student has attended at least 90% of the Spanish classes in that specific Spanish language course.
Are there any kind of discounts on your Spanish language courses?
Yes! Groups of three or more students that enrol together for the same Spanish language course and starting on the same date, get at discount of 10%, as do former students that have studied Spanish at our school before.
Are the Spanish courses applied for given regardless of the number of students that have enrolled for that Spanish language course?
Not always. The Spanish language courses that appear in the section on Spanish courses are always given. But, the Spanish course will not be given if there is not a minimum of three students enrolled in the Spanish language course in question.
How do I extend a Spanish language course?
Normally there is no problem in extending a Spanish language course, but let the office know a.s.a.p. to ensure a place.
| ENROLMENT, DATES, PAYMENT, PRICES | What is the procedure for enrolling for a Spanish course?
You have to fill in an application form for that Spanish language course and send it in as soon as possible. The quickest way is to fill out our online form but you can also send it by fax or mail. When we have received your deposit you will receive full information about how to pay the initial deposit of 200€.
What is the deadline for payment?
The outstanding amount (the full amount less the deposit) is due to be paid at least 4 weeks before your arrival date.
What happens if I have to cancel my Spanish language course?
You must let us know as soon as possible in written if you need to cancel your course. In the section on genera conditions, this matter is dealt with in more detail.
Can I pay with a credit card?
You can only pay the initial deposit by credit card. The outstanding amount have to be paid by bank transfer.
What are the shared flats like and where are they? Do they have a washing machine, kitchen, sheets and towels?
Shared flats have a living room, bathroom, kitchen and washing machine. Each student has his own individual room. Do not count on sheets or towels.
What if I arrive before the first Sunday or if I want to stay on after the last Saturday?
Students may only remain with the families, or in the shared flats offered through the Spanish language course school, while they are enrolled in a Spanish language course in the school.
Can I rent my own flat?
Yes. There are a lot of flats for rent in Santa Cruz. Prices are quite reasonable. The Spanish language course school can help students to find their own flats.
Do flats and families have telephones?
The families have telephones where you can receive calls, but you may NOT make a call without the express permission of the family in question. None of the flats has a telephone.
