 TENERIFE
Where is Tenerife and the Canary Islands?
The Canary Islands are set in the Atlantic Ocean, between 27º37' and 29º23' North and 13º20' and 18º16' West of the Greenwich mean; a short distance from the African mainland. The nearest island is just 115 km off the coast of Africa. Tenerife is the largest island, set in the middle of the Canary Island Archipelago.

How can I get to the Canary Islands?
All the islands have airports. Tenerife has two and the intense passenger traffic makes them some of the most important airports in Spain. There are international connections with Europe, America and Africa, with quite cheap tariffs, thanks to the severe competition, the large number of airlines operating in the islands and the number of flights to Canary Island airports.
You can also get here by ship, but the journey is much longer and more tiresome.

What is Santa Cruz de Tenerife like?
Santa Cruz, capital of the island, is a mixture of tradition and modern times. It has become one of the most important capital cities in Spain, because of its beauty, tradition, culture, economy and, of course, its quality of life.

Can I hire a car, a bicycle? How?
The only transport in the Canary Islands at the moment is road transport. The road network is exempt from tolls and petrol is much cheaper here because taxes on it are lower. There are many car-hire agencies and prices are very reasonable. Bicycles are not widely used, except as a sport, because the terrain is quite rugged. It is occasionally used as everyday transport.
